The UFC have suspended Jon Jones indefinitely and stripped him of his UFC light heavyweight title.

Daniel Cormier will now face Anthony Johnson for the vacant light heavyweight title on May 23rd in the main event of UFC 187.

Jones was arrested on Monday after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday morning.

A UFC statement read: “”We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

The accident had resulted in a woman being admitted to hospital with a broken arm. Jones surrendered himself to police in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Monday after a warrant was put out for his arrest. He was later released on bail.

Jones tweeted on Tuesday:

Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I’ve let down.
