Liverpool FC target Klaas Jan-Huntelaar to make decision on Schalke future

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is set to make a decision about his future following reports linking him with a move to Liverpool.

Reports on Monday morning had suggested Huntelaar, who is out of contract next summer, is being lined up by Liverpool as a replacement for Andy Carroll, who continues to be linked with a return to former club Newcastle (see Related Articles).

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt recently admitted the forward’s future at the club was “uncertain” and has confirmed talks will take place this week.

And Huntelaar, who it is believed could be available for £15million, said: “When the time comes I will take a decision. I don’t think that it will be long.”

Heldt added: “He is in a situation where he can sign his last big contract, so he is thinking hard about that.

“That is his right and we are understanding.”

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham have also shown interest in the Netherlands international.

The summer transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Friday.
