Argentina Announces Roster For Women’s Volleyball Championship

Published on

On Saturday, Argentina announced the 23 players representing the nation this September at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

The roster, led by coach Hernan Ferraro, will not lack experience – 11 players have Olympic experience. Ten of them, including setter Victoria Mayer and outside hitter Yas Nizetich, were part of the Argentina squad that finished 11th at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

While Ferraro would surely like to win a championship in the Netherlands this fall, he’s keeping one eye on the future.

“We expect to gradually rebuild our roster over the next two years,” Ferraro said. “We have a very interesting group of young players coming up and we want them to start training with our more veteran players and hopefully getting some match experience too.

To that end, Ferraro has picked some younger players to join the team this season, including 17-year-old setters Juana Giardini and Juliet Aruga and 18-year-old outside hitter Nicole Perez.

Argentina’s women have now qualified for the FIVB World Championship seven times. Their last appearance was in 2018, when they finished 19th in the 24-team field.
