Brazilian Squads Dominate South American Tour Finals

Published on

All things considered, it was a pretty good weekend to be a Brazilian beach volleyball fan.

Last week, Brazil hosted the 2022 South American Tour Finals in Uberlandia. The Brazilian players certainly felt at ease, with homegrown squads winning the men’s and women’s gold medal titles.

On the men’s side, Brazilians Andre Loyola and George Wanderley squared off against Chileans Marco and Esteban Grimalt in the title match. After dropping the first set 25-27, Loyola and Wanderley stormed back to win the next two 21-16 and 15-11, capturing the title.

Over on the women’s side, it was an all-Brazilian final with Elize Maia and Thamela Coradello facing Eduarda Lisboa and Ana Patricia Ramos. Their match was less dramatic than the men’s however, with Lisboa and Ramos winning 22-20, 21-15 in straight sets to take gold.

Maia and Coradello at least will get a quick shot at redemption. The pair are set to appear in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge event in Kuşadası, Turkey later this week.
