Cuban and Canadian Squads Top In San Marcos Tournament

On Sunday, the 2022 San Marcos Beach Volleyball Tournament concluded in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with the Cuban men and Canadian women’s teams emerging victorious.

In the men’s final, Cuba’s Jorge Luis Alayo and Noslen Díaz defeated Americans Billy Kolinske and Evan Cory 21-18, 21-19. Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukavec beat Americans Allie Wheeler and Zana Muno 21-17, 21-10 to claim the gold medal and $2,000 in prize money in the women’s final.

Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Miguel Sarabia won third place on the men’s side, while Canadians Shanice Marcelle and 17-year-old Stanford recruit Ruby Sorra rounded out the top three for the women.

The tournament in San Marcos marked the first stage of the NORCECA Tour 2022. Up next for the men’s squads is the NORCECA International League Final Four Qualification Tournament starting on 1 June in Cuba. The women’s Final Four is set to begin on 15 June in Mexico.
