You don’t fly halfway around the world to compete in a beach volleyball tournament unless you plan to win it. Unfortunately, other teams have a say.
Last week, the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge resumed play in Kusadasi, Turkey. Brazilians Elize Secomandi Maia and Thamela Coradello Galil entered the tournament with high hopes but failed to advance beyond the round of 16. They finished the tournament tied for ninth place.
The Brazilians started the tournament well, beating Emma Piersma and Mexime Van Driel in straight sets to win their opening match (21-18, 21-17). It was Galil and Maia’s last win of the tournament. The pair lost their next matchups against Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec and Americans Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth, both in straight sets.
The next Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Event will be held in Espinho, Portugal from July 14th-17th. The tournament will be broadcast live on VBTV.
