Minnesota Twins activate Miguel Sano from injury list

Dominican first baseman Miguel Sano will make his much-awaited return to the field after being activated by the Minnesota Twins from its 60-day injured list.

The 29-year-old Sano was sidelined for nearly three months after suffering from a torn meniscus on his left knee during its 5-4 victory against the Detroit Tigers last April 26.

“I feel really good, ready to go,” said Sano who has a slash line of .093/.231/.148 across 17 games and 65 plate appearances.

Prior to the injury, Sano hit .223 with 30 homers and 75 RBIs in 135 games last year. He also went deep 13 times across 54 games in the shortened 2020 season and recorded a career-high 34 homers in 2019.

In his 12-game rehabilitation assignment in the Florida Complex League, Sano posted a hitting average of .333 with five homers and 11 RBI with Triple-A St. Paul.

In other moves, the Twins moved left-hander Danny Coulombe from its 10-day to 60-day IL while outfielder Gilberto Celestino was transferred to Triple-A St. Paul to open a spot on the active roster.
