Venezuelans Carrasco and Escobar lift Mets to victory over Rangers

The New York Mets banked on the heroics of Venezuelan duo Carlos Carrasco and Eduardo Escobar to survive the Texas Rangers 4-1 at Citi Field.

Carrasco had 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball while Escobar homered for the third straight game as the Mets recorded another series win against the pesky Rangers, who got a strong game from catcher, Jonah Heim.

After taking a precarious 1-0 lead courtesy of a solo homer from Carrasco in the first inning, Heim managed to record a first-pitch blast in the third to even things up at 1-1.

However, it proved to be the Rangers’ last crack at the offense as Escobar dug deep for the third time in the series by crushing Jon Gray’s 0-2 four-seam fastball into the Mets’ bullpen on the right for a 4-1 game.

Besides Escobar and Carrasco, the Mets also had solid contributions from Joely Rodriguez, Adam Ottavino, and Edwin Diaz, who combined to register the final 10 outs.

The Mets hope to continue their winning ways as they bring the heat to Cincinnati this Monday when it opens its three-game series against the Reds.
