Panathinaikos vs. Bayern Munich takes place tonight in the Euroleague.
The game takes place at the Athens Olympic Center and is scheduled to start at 19:00 GMT.
Preview:
The Greens are aiming to extend their seven-game home winning streak in the Euroleague and avenge their 75-81 defeat to Bayern at the Audi Dome last October 23. Panathinaikos (4-2) got back on track last week by posting a 79-69 win at PGE Turow Zgorzelec. Back-up center Loukas Mavrokefalidis had 21 points and six rebounds off the bench to lead the Greens to their third win in four games.
Panathinaikos is coming off an 86-55 demolition of KAO Dramas in the Greek League last Sunday.
Esteban Batista (12.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg), Mavrokefalidis (11 ppg) and Vlantimir Giankovits (9.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg) provide inside presence while AJ Slaughter (11.3 ppg) is hoping to duplicate his 28-point performance against KAO.
Nikolas Pappas, Janis Blums and defensive ace James Gist are also expected to contribute.
Bottom-ranked Bayern (1-5), meanwhile, will try to arrest a four-game skid. The German champions hardly put up a fight against Barcelona last week as they absorbed a 77-99 beating at home.
Nihad Djedovic (13.7 ppg) will head the scoring party for Bayern and the Bosnian star should get help from John Bryant (11.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Dusko Savanovic (11.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg) on the offensive end.
Other key players for Bayern are guards Heiko Schaffartzik and Vasilje Micic and big men Robin Benzing and Vladimir Stimac.
Bo McCalebb is also expected to improve his production after scoring four points and issuing five assists against Barcelona in his Euroleague debut for Bayren. The US-born Macedonian guard was signed to a one-month deal following injuries to Bryce Taylor, Anton Gavel and Paul Zipser.
Harry James
Harry James' love for sports began in his high school basketball days. Sadly, an injury meant he couldn't further his NBA dreams, but the hooper's loss is our gain as he then found journalism.
