Red Bull’s Perez sees golden era for Mexican drivers

Perez sees golden era for Mexican racing

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez believes that Mexico is currently having a golden era in motorsport with some of its drivers putting in impressive performances in some of the world’s premier motor racing series.

Speaking in an interview with Red Bull’s fuel provider Exxon Mobile, the 32-year old Mexican recognized the recent performances of his compatriots Pato O’Ward and Daniel Suarez.

O’Ward, who has expressed his desire to compete in F1, is coming off his first IndyCar victory last week and well on his way of signing a new deal with McLaren. Suarez, on the other hand, is in his second year driving for the Pitbull-owned Trackhouse Racing.

“I think Mexico is living their best era in (racing) history, with top drivers in each series. It’s great,” Perez said.

Perez is currently third in the Formula One Championship standings after four races. He add that he is hoping to see more Mexican drivers in the F1 after Red Bull signed Noel Leon as one of its junior series drivers.
