Colin Kaepernick Works Out For Raiders

Colin Kaepernick’s six-year exile from the NFL might be nearing an end.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Kaepernick worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday. The 34-year-old quarterback has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season when he gained international attention for his peaceful protests against police brutality.

Derek Carr is firmly established as the Raiders’ starter. Even if he did make the Raiders’ roster, Kaepernick is unlikely to see much playing time outside the preseason. In an interview earlier this year, Kaepernick said he would like to use a backup position as a stepping stone to a starter role elsewhere.

“Yeah. I know I have to find my way back in,” Kaepernick said. “So, yeah, if I have to come in as a backup that’s fine, but that’s not where I’m staying. And when I prove that I’m a starter, I want to be able to step on the field as such. I just need that opportunity to walk through the door.”
