Angels' Noah Syndergaard returns from injury, helps defeat Rangers 5-3

Tuesday’s night matchup between the Los Angeles Angels against the Texas Rangers ended in a dominating home turf win for LA over the visiting Texas 5-3.

Angels pitcher Noah Syndergaard or best known for his nickname “Thor” hammered the Rangers with his longest game appearance returning shortly after from elbow surgery. Syndergaard recorded a notable effort during the game alongside first baseman Jared Walsh.

Aside from hitting the field after his surgery, Syndergaard had a poor appearance playing Texas last week when the Angels had to sustain two consecutive defeats from the Rangers on May 18-19. The 29-year-old redeemed himself on Tuesday by retiring 13 players from the visiting team. Syndergaard also only allowed a single run of the four-hit ball over eight innings.

“My last outing (stunk), and I knew I had to face the Rangers again,” Syndergaard said. “This time around, I had a chip on my shoulder and pitched with a little bit of attitude tonight. Tried to get the other guys involved, and the defense was stellar tonight—Just a really good team win, and we’re having a lot of fun.”

The right-handed pitcher’s post-Tommy Lee surgery did not limit him from stealing the spotlight. Despite the win being surely a team effort, Thor, as many people came to know him did not even walk a batter. While pitching 73 out of 93 for strikes, he managed to avoid a three-ball count.

Angels manager Joe Maddon was fully aware of Syndergaard’s redemption play. Maddon only had one thing to say for the franchise’s valuable pitcher, “he was on a mission.”

“He was really good, and I thought he kept getting better,” Angels manager Joe Maddon said. “I think he wanted to prove a point after his last start against these guys. I thought he was outstanding—He was on a mission.”

Alongside Syndergaard, there was Walsh who had registered a home run and one RBI for the Angels, while shortstop Luis Rengifo, second baseman Tyler Wade, and third baseman Andrew Velazquez each had a single RBI.

Left fielder Brandon Marsh also helped Syndergaard by leaping on the wall to rob a potential home run made by Rangers designated hitter Mitch Garver to put an end to the fourth inning.

The fourth inning was when the hosting team shine most. LA had inserted four points for them and made another in the following inning. Texas on the other hand clinched a single in eight and an additional two in the ninth.

The visiting team only had managed to set up their footing back in the last leg of the race following Garver’s successful home run to Angels pitcher Aaron Loup. Cuban professional center fielder Adolis García was credited for registering a two-out RBI double closer to Angels pitcher Raisel Iglesias.

The hard labor by the visiting team was there, however, Texas made a few defensive misplays, which could likely explain the team’s forced defeat by the hosting team.

Both teams have been scheduled for a matchup on Wednesday this week having the Angels as the hosting team.
