Connecticut Huskies, Butler Bulldogs, Score Update – NCAA Final Four

Jim Calhoun of the Connecticut Huskies.

UCONN and Butler met in the national championship from Houston.

Jim Calhoun and the Connecticut Huskies have their third national championship as UCONN defeated the Butler Bulldogs on Monday night 53-41. The result completes the 2011 March Madness college basketball tournament, a historic event that saw neither a 1 seed nor a 2 seed make the Final Four.

With the victory Connecticut cap a tremendous run of playoff wins as the Huskies limped into the post-season and then ran through the Big East tournament, their region of the national tournament, and finally the Final Four.

Connecticut made Butler look like a 8th seeded team out of the Horizon League that had no business in the national final on Monday as the Bulldogs short range shots were bankrupt when faced with Connecticut’s defenses.

Brad Stevens, head coach of Butler, is now 0-2 in the national championship game as he fell short last season in the final as well. Jim Calhoun on the other hand is 3-0 in the national championship game in his career as his squad defeated the Duke Blue Devils in 1999 and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 2004 before tonight’s win over Butler.
