Shane Lambert – 28 Dec 2020 The non-BCS games have been in full swing for awhile but the BCS games and the National championship are still on the horizon.
Glendale, Arizona will host the 2011 Tostitos BCS National Championship game this season as the Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers will meet at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the home field of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.
The date for the game is January 10th, a Monday, and, quite strategically, it is the first Monday of the football season that won’t have an NFL game featured as the regular season will have ended by that point in the calendar year.
The PAC 10 is back in the BCS National Championship game as the Oregon Ducks enter the season finale with a perfect record of 12-0. The Ducks opened their season with tremendous blowouts against weak competition and they have only played in one tight game. Back in November, divisional rivals California put a scare in Oregon with a close game however the Ducks pulled through 15-13. Oregon have faced a very talented Stanford team this season and Oregon came away with the win but perhaps the Ducks were fortunate to have such a tough game from the friendly confines of their home field.
The Tigers have had more than their fair share of tough games as Auburn, at 13-0, have played 6 games that were decided by 8 points or less.
This season the Tigers defeated Mississippi State, Clemson, South Carolina, Kentucky, LSU, and Alabama by a combined 25 points and the win over the Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl was a classic victory.
That Auburn went on the road and defeated Alabama, the defending national champions, after trailing by multiple possessions in that game does make the Tigers appear to be a team of destiny this season. Surviving a situation that tough may better prepare Auburn for the national championship final as it’s tough to find a similar scenario for the Ducks from their 12 games.
Game time is at 8:30pm ET on Monday January 10th and Auburn are the favored team, as they should be, with Stan James.
