Machado, Gore display impressive performance as Padres thrash Giants 10-1

The San Diego Padres pounded the San Francisco Giants 10-1 in an away match, thanks to Manny Machado’s four extra-base hits and MacKenzie Gore’s six innings of three balls and one run.

The Padres marked their first series sweep in San Francisco since 2016 with Machado and colleagues’ outstanding statistics.

Machado’s statistics in the match also included two RBIs, a triple, three doubles, and an intentional walk, making him the first Padres player to score four extra-base hits in a single match.

“A good baseball day for us, very good,” Machado said. “We’ve got a really good thing going here as a ballclub and if we continue to do things the right way, things will fall in. But you have to keep that foot on the gas.”

MacKenzie Gore was also impressive with six innings of three balls and one run, two walks, and six strikeouts, meaning that he has scored six starts and one relief appearance for the Padres.

The 23-year-old Gore praised Machado for making his team members feel comfortable, adding that Machado’s four extra-base hits marked the Padres record.

“Manny’s been awesome. MVP. The hustle double today in a game that’s kind of out of hand, he sets the tone and we all build off of that.” Gore on Machado.

Meanwhile, the star third baseman also gave kudos to Gore and his teammates for displaying an impressive performance.

“MacKenzie Gore threw the ball well. The team swung the bats well. It was a good baseball day for us,” Machado said, as MLB reported.

Clevinger on the 15-day injured list

Gore’s performance against the Giants was impressive as he previously replaced Mike Clevinger, who was absent due to injury on May 17 in Philadelphia, his second appearance after the Padres’ home loss against the Cubs on May 9.

Gore stated that the rotation did not change anything as he only did his job well, which earned appreciation from Machado and his fellow teammates.

Bob Melvin indicated that Clevinger’s tricep injury was not that serious, adding that the player still showed his contribution and wanted to pitch.

The 31-year-old Clevinger once underwent arm surgery in 2020 and missed the whole season a year later.

As the Padres included Clevinger on the 15-day injured list due to his tricep issues, as Sportsnaut wrote on May 22, Steven Wilson will take over his position.

Melvin himself just underwent prostate surgery on May 11 and Ryan Christenson took charge during the three-time Manager of The Year’s absence.

Padres’ roster steps up

Besides Gore and Machado—who tops the National League with a .374 average–other Padres players also contributed to the rout against the Giants. Every starter had hits (except Jurickson Profar, who scored a run).

Jake Croneworth contributed two hits, including a double, for two RBI, Wil Myers scored a double and three hits and three RBI, while Ha-Seong Kim had one RBI, a double, and two hits.

The success in San Francisco could help boost the team’s confidence in the coming matches, hoping that the team would play better, Myers stated.

While Wilson-who has appeared 16 times this season–also scored an excellent ninth inning in the Padres’ victory over the Giants on Sunday.

The Padres will face the Milwaukee Brewers from May 24 to May 26 then the Pittsburg Pirates from May 28 to May 30.
