AC Milan hold their nerve to win Serie A title

AC Milan win Serie A

Despite being pushed all the way by cross-city rivals Inter, AC Milan have won their first Serie A title since 2011. AC got the three points they needed thanks to a 3-0 win over Sassuolo.

Inter were waiting in the wings and knew that any slip up from their rivals could see them lift a second successive Scudetto, if they beat Sampdoria at home – something they managed to do 3-0, thanks to two goals from Argentine forward Joaquin Correra.

For Inter, it was a season of what might have been. Looking to defend their title from last season, a mid-season slump ultimately cost them their title dreams.

The future for Inter looks far from certain. Still plagued by financial issues off the pitch, it’s likely that Inter will need to sell a few of their star men to balance the books.

Top of that list might be forward Lautoro Martinez. Martinez has made no secret of his desire to stay at Inter, but the Inter hierarchy knows they can command a very decent fee for the forward. With clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Tottenham rumoured to be circling it should be a fascinating summer.
