Feyenoord edge out Marseille in first leg of Europa Conference League semifinal

Feyenoord beat Marseille in first leg

The Europa Conference League served up a memorable semifinal as Dutch giants Feyenoord squeaked past French side Marseille 3-2.

The game was littered with quality moments from several South Americans but it’s Jorge Sampaoli, Marseille’s Chilean boss who has more to think about ahead of the second leg.

The game started at a frenetic pace with Feyenoord taking the lead in the 18th minute thanks to a goal from Cyril Dessers. The assist was made by Colombian Luis Sinisterra. Two minutes later Sinisterra was able to double the Dutch sides lead with a well taken goal. At just 22, Sinisterra could be on the radar of several clubs this summer.

Marseille have class throughout their team and they came roaring back to 2-2 thanks to goals by Bamba Dieng and the Brazilian Gerson.

Despite pegging the Dutch side back, Marseille were left to rue a sloppy start to the second half when Dessers scored his second goal of the game giving Feyenoord a 3-2 lead.

The two teams are evenly matched and the second leg looks set to be a cracking match.
