Speaking ahead of the game, Arsenal defender Gabriel has said the north London side took a huge shot of confidence from their recent Champions League win over Bayern.

The Gunners looked dead and buried in Group F after losing their opening two games, but a superb 2-0 victory at home to Bayern last time out has reinvigorated their bid to reach the knockout stages of the competition.

However, they now face the daunting prospect on trying to gain a positive result against Bayern in Germany, but Brazilian Gabriel says the mood in the Arsenal camp is one of optimism.

He told reporters: “We feel more confident within the competition than after the first two games.

“We had two defeats and we felt a bit down, but the group is very strong, so we managed to overcome that and we managed to recover against a great team that will probably fight to win the competition.

“With this victory, we managed to get up and running and realised that anything is possible in football.”

Meanwhile, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski says his side will take a positive approach to the game and look to secure a win which would take them to within touching distance of the knockout phase.

He added: “Our situation is still good on six points, but we absolutely want to win.

“It will be most important for us to control Arsenal and also to score the first goal. It will get easier after that.”
