Cristian Romero named as Jamie Carragher’s signing of the season

With the Premier League season coming to an end, the awards are starting to be dished out. After Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Sky’s Monday Night Football, renowned pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville handed out their end of season awards. When it came to the new signing of the season award Carragher opted for Tottenham’s Argentine defender Cristian Romero.

Despite an injury disrupted season, Romero has shown why he was voted the Serie A defender of the year last season.

Brave, strong on the ball and a real leader, Romero has helped marshal a Tottenham back line that is now on the cusp of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Considering Romero has missed several months of the season due to a hamstring injury, it’s a testament to his abilities that he has been singled out for special recognition.

Romero joined Tottenham on loan from Atlanta but with an option to buy for £50 million. Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has already declared that the official transfer of Romero will be completed as early as possible.

It isn’t just Tottenham that Romero will aim to help. Romero is set to play a huge part in Argentina’s upcoming World Cup campaign. Both his club and country will be hoping his injury problems will quickly become a thing of the past.
