Diego Souza’s hat-trick gives Grêmio their first win of the season

Brazilian striker Diego Souza had a dream night at the Arena do Grêmio as his hat-trick gave his side their first victory of the season against Guaraní.

After their relegation in 2021, Grêmio had been waiting for a victory after making a slow start to life in Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. Their first two games had given them one point and no goals. The win will no doubt boost the team’s confidence as they bid to fight for promotion.

Grêmio struck fast and hard, when a cross from Gabriel Teixeira ended up at Souza’s feet to make it 1-0 inside two minutes. Guaraní found an equaliser, thanks to Matheus Pereira, in the 25th minute. Grêmio never gave up and before halftime Souza scored again.

The second half began like the first one with the ‘Gauchos’ attacking, and Souza scored his third on 60 minutes and put to rest any concerns about the team’s goal scoring this season.

With this win, the Porto Allegre team now has four points, and gives the fans some hope for the season as they head to Operário in their next match.
