Dramatic 92nd Minute Goal Sends Deportes Tolima Through to Copa Libertadores Last 16

A scarcely believable 92nd-minute goal saw Deportes Tolima through to the last 16 of Copa Libertadores in dramatic fashion – knocking Independiente del Valle out of the competition in heartbreaking fashion.

The Colombian Primera A side were the 10/1 underdogs with the bookmakers to get the win at Atletico Minéiro, who had already secured the top spot in Group D.

Meanwhile, Independiente thought that a big win over América Mineiro would be enough to secure their passage into the Round of 16, and they held up their end of the bargain with a 3-0 victory in Quito.

But they simply could not have legislated for what unfolded at the Mineirão. Tolima took the lead in the second period through Michael Rangel, and they then bunkered down to see out a famous win.

Their hearts appeared to be broken when Eduardo Sasha equalised for the hosts as late as the 88th minute, but there was yet to be another twist in the tale as Jeison Lucumi popped up to net an injury-time winner and send the Ecuadorians into raptures.
