Jose Mourinho believes he is the right man to lead Chelsea, but he is not sure if the Blues can retain their Premier League title following a poor start to the campaign.
Mourinho was left frustrated after a Steven Naismith hat-trick condemned his side to a 3-1 defeat at Everton on Saturday.
It was Chelsea’s third defeat of the campaign and leaves them with just four points from their opening five matches, while Manchester City are 11 points better off following a fifth straight win to maintain their 100% record.
Mourinho spoke out afterwards to admit the current run of results “are the worst in my career”, but he added: “I am not feeling pressure.
“I am the man for the job. I don’t think there is better man who could come and do my job.”
Looking at the bigger picture in terms of this season’s title race, Mourinho feels his side already faces a difficult task in trying to defend their crown with the situation “out of our control”.
The Portuguese tactician said. “To win the title, it will depend on us to improve the results but also on other clubs who are above us to lose matches.
“Even if we win every game between now and the end of season, we still depend on other results.”
Mourinho is now looking for an instant response from his players when they face Maccabi Tel Aviv at Stamford Bridge in the group stages of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
“I know that a lot of people are happy that after so many years to see me in a situation like this,” he added.
“Fair play. Enjoy. But I will enjoy my day tomorrow, again working hard as always thinking that on Wednesday we can win.”
