David De Gea’s £29million move from Manchester United to Real Madrid fell through on Tuesday – but three players were allowed to leave Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.

Real decided not to appeal to La Liga following the collapse of the Spanish goalkeeper’s proposed transfer.

As part of the deal, United were planning to sign Costa Rica international shot-stopper Keylor Navas, but that move also failed to be finalised.
Meanwhile, Adnan Januzaj has joined Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.

The Belgium international, who had been linked with a temporary switch to Sunderland last month, said: “Borussia Dortmund are a great club. The fans here are supposed to be really incredible and I want to achieve great things with the team.”

Januzaj has made 60 first-team appearances for United but has had limited opportunities to shine since Louis van Gaal replaced David Moyes as manager.

Mexico international striker Javier Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, has moved to Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee. He has signed a three-year deal with the German club after scoring 57 goals in 159 appearances for United.

Finally, goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer after making 29 first-team appearances for United since joining the club in January 2011.

The Dane, who has signed a two-year contract at The Hawthorns, said: “Since moving to England I’ve been impressed with how well West Brom have done in the Premier League.

“I had a good chat with Tony Pulis and he convinced me it would be a good move for me and the club. I am very happy to join West Brom and hope I can make a big contribution this season.”
