Man Utd target Neymar will stay at FC Barcelona says father

Reported Manchester United target Neymar will not be leaving Barcelona and hopes to enter into talks about extending his contract at Camp Nou, according to his father.

Widespread recent reports suggested United had sounded out the Brazil star about a sensational big-money move to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closed.

The 23-year-old is under contract with the Catalans until 2018.

Neymar’s father said the former Santos starlet had no desire to leave last season’s Spanish champions and called for patience over talks about a new deal.

“People can relax, Neymar is staying at Barca,” Neymar Sr told Cuatro.

“We don’t need to reach an agreement with Barca because he has three more years on his contract.”

Barcelona technical director, Robert Fernandez, confirmed negotiations over extended stays for Neymar and midfielder Rafinha were a priority for club officials.

He told TV3: “They’re on track. They’re very important players who will be at Barcelona for many years.”
