Peru to face Australia with winner advancing to the World Cup

The wait for Peru is over. Peru now knows that victory over Australia will see them qualify for this year’s World Cup.

Due to the ongoing impact of COVID, Peru have had to wait to find out their playoff opponents following the result of Asian playoff final. With that match finally being played, it was Australia who edged out the UAE to set up Monday’s finale.

That Peru have once again made it far is a testament to their squad and the abilities of manager Ricardo Gareca. Peru finished above countries like Colombia and Chile to earn the right to qualify for this year’s World Cup and it’s an opportunity they will want to seize.

Peru doesn’t have any world class stars but are a solid team unit.

Key to their success in qualifying were the goals of Christian Cueva. Cueva found the net five times and provided two assists throughout qualification, and Peru will be hoping that he can once again lead from the front and inspire the team to yet another monumental victory.
