Rafael Borre helps Eintracht Frankfurt advance to Europa League Final

Borre scores as Frankfurt overcome West Ham

A first half goal by Colombian forward Rafael Borre was enough to see Eintracht Frankfurt advance to this year’s Europa League Final. The German side beat Premier League outfitWest Ham 1-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate. It is only the third time that the German side will have competed in a major European final with their last appearance coming 41 years ago!

Holding a 2-1 lead heading into the second leg, Frankfurt’s task was made easier thanks to West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell receiving a red card after just 26 minutes.

Frankfurt would immediately punish their English opponents thanks to a wonderfully well worked goal. Ansgar Knauff who was a constant thorn in the side of the West Ham defense, did some great work on the flank, advancing to the byline before playing a clever cutback to where Borre was waiting. When the ball arrived to the Colombian, he made no mistake and slammed a first time finish past the despairing Hammers keeper. It was Borre’s tenth goal of the campaign and by far his most important.

Frankfurt will head to the final in Seville where they will take on Scottish side Rangers. It’s highly likely that they will start the final as the slight favorites.
