Stalemate in Liga MX Clausura Semi-Final First Leg Between Club América and Pachuca

Honours Even In Fraught Club América-Pachuca Semi Final

It’s all to play for in the second leg of the Liga MX Clausura semi-final between Club América and Pachuca, with the first leg ending in stalemate.

On home soil at Estadio Azteca, Águilas del América will be disappointed not to have an advantage to take on the road with them, and perhaps Pachuca are now the favorites to progress to the final, where either Atlas or Tigres await.

As tends to be the case in games of this magnitude, the opening passages of play were cagey and risk-averse, and in the first half, there were just five shots on goal from both teams combined.

But the action improved after the break, at least in terms of goals anyway, with Club América striking first in the 54th minute – Diego Valdés putting the finishing touch to a slick counter-attacking move.

There was a calamity for the hosts, however, in the 80th minute when Jorge Sánchez committed a foul in the area, and Pachuca’s Nicolás Ibáñez made no mistake from the spot.

It’s all to play for then in Sunday’s second leg.
