Roger Federer Results Vs Albert Montanes Atp Estoril

Montanes was all-smiles late in this one as he advanced to defend his championship in Estoril.

Roger Federer struggled to find his form today as he lost in the semifinals of the ATP Estoril event to unheralded Albert Montanes.  Montanes came into the match as a 13/2 underdog, odds we tipped as valuable, but walked away the victor as he scored his first career win over the Swiss Maestro.

The final score in the match ended up being 6-2, 7-6 as Federer failed to find rhythm for an extended period today.

Perhaps the key point in the match was the first point of the second set tiebreaker as Federer had a sitter at the net that he charged in at.  He simply hit the ball a foot out along the sideline despite having numerous options to win the point with.

Montanes now has a good chance to defend his title while Federer’s price for the 2010 French Open should start lengthening.
