Former UFC champ Barão returns to the cage, takes on Gomis

Barão takes on Gomis next month

Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barão will make his return to the cage when he takes on William Gomis at ARES FC 7 this June 25 at the Le Dôme de Paris – Palais des Sports in Paris.

The 35-year old Brazilian was cut from the UFC in 2019 after dropping five consecutive fights. Prior to that losing skid, Barão won 33 straight fights, including a title victory over Urijah Faber at UFC 149.

Barão has been scheduled to fight on three other occasions but each booking failed to materialize due to various reasons. Most recently, he attempted to join Khabib Nurmagomedov’s promotion to take on Horacio Gutierrez at Eagle FC 44 in January.

Currently holding a 34-9 (win-loss), Barão is expected to have his hands full against the 24-year old Gomis, who has recorded seven straight victories.

Gomis, who sports an impressive 9-2 card, is fresh off stoppage wins against Baba Boundjou Nadjombe at Hexagone MMA 2 and Arip Yakubov at UAE Warriors 28.
