Felix Peña parts ways with Mets to sign with KBO team

Veteran pitcher Felix Peña is opting out of his current minor league deal with the New York Mets to join a team in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).

It’s not clear yet which club the 32-year-old Dominican will sign with but Yonhap News Agency’s Jee-ho Yoo revealed earlier this week that the Kia Tigers are looking for a possible replacement for Sean Nolin, who is currently on the injury list.

Peña joined the Mets over the winter following a remarkable performance in the Dominican Winter League wherein he displayed averages of 1.91 ERA, and a 27-to-7 K/BB ratio in 33 innings.

He has suited up in eight games with the Mets’ Triple A-affiliate in Syracuse, posting numbers of 4.06 ERA with 20.2% strikeout rate, 7.0% strong walk rate, and 53.3% ground ball average in six starts and two relief appearances.

Peña is coming off a hamstring strain that sidelined him for the first weeks of last season wherein he was clobbered for seven runs in only 1 2/3 frames upon rejoining the squad.
