Pujols bags Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award at ESPYs

St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter Albert Pujols received the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award at ESPYs for his steadfast efforts to serve those in need.

The 42-year-old Pujols, who will bring his decorated 22-year MLB career at the end of this season, helps the poor in his native Dominican Republic as well as people with Down syndrome through the Pujols Family Foundation.

“We have programs for some of these kids and adults to do, like basketball, cooking classes and the one I enjoy the most – I love to dance – the prom. You’re talking about a ballroom full of 500-700 kids and adults with Down syndrome just having a blast,” Pujols said.

Pujols is also the second MLB player to win the award in the past three years after Nelson Cruz won it in 2020.

The Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award is only one of the many trophies that Pujols has accumulated in his career.

He has also bagged the 2001 National League Rookie of the Year Award, three MVP plaques, six Silver Slugger trophies, and two Gold Glove laurels.
