Brazil win U18 South American Championship

Brazil beat Argentina 73-59 in the final of the International Basketball Federation under-18’s South American Championship.

The match, which took place at the “Papá” Carrillo gym in Caracas, Venezuela, was a close contest but the Brazilians eventually came out on top to be crowned Champions. It was the fourth time they have won the event and draws them closer to Argentina who have won eight times.

As the match got underway, there was nothing in it and the lead changed hands throughout the first half. As Brazil began to dominate, they slowly pulled ahead in the third quarter. Their ability to score points after a turnover in play provided to be crucial and arguably won them the match.

The tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Reynan Dos Santos and his team-mate Gabriel Landeira scored 17 points apiece to help Brazil to victory.

In the match for third place, Ecuador narrowly beat Uruguay 63-60. It meant that they joined Brazil and Argentina in qualifying for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship taking place in June.
