Brazilian forward Soares transfers to Iowa State women’s basketball program

Five-star prospect joins Iowa State

Two-time NAIA Player of the Year and five-star prospect Stephanie Soares will take her talents into the Midwest as she joins the Iowa State women’s basketball team.

Soares, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, suited up for Masters University Mustangs for three seasons. Last season, she averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks while leading the Mustangs to a 32-4 (win-loss) card and a quarterfinal appearance.

Iowa State women’s basketball head coach Bill Fennelly said that he is excited to add Soares to their already-loaded squad.

“We could not be more excited to add Stephanie to our program. Stephanie is very skilled with great length, which is something we needed at both ends of the floor,” Fennelly said.

Soares will join an Iowa State team coming off a historic season, winning 28 games and advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16. They are spearheaded by leading scorer and rebounder Ashley Joens, who returns for her fifth year next season.
