Charlo knocks out Castaño, unifies four 154lbs world titles

On Saturday, American welterweight Jermell Charlo displayed a commanding performance to knock out Argentinian boxer Brian Castaño in the 10th round of their rematch at Carson, California.

With the victory, Charlo became the first man to hold every 154 lbs title in the four-belt era and the seventh fighter to be named the undisputed champion of any weight class since 1988.

“This is legacy. This is something that is legendary. I’m a legend. This is a beautiful thing,” said Charlo, who improved to 35-1-1 (win-draw-loss) with 19 KOs.

After a split draw in his first match with Castaño, the American displayed an impressive counterpunching game plan that led to big exchanges in the fifth and saw him counter the Argentinian’s aggression.

Charlo continued to press in the later rounds and managed to slow the Argentine’s early pace with a right uppercut and left hook to score the first knockdown.
Castaño tried to regain his composure, but he was dropped with two left hands to the head and a left to the body seconds later, leaving him on the canvas for good at 2:33 of the 10th.
