Mohammed Abbas Re-joins Hampshire for 2022 County Season

Hampshire has managed to retain one of the best fast bowlers in the world by announcing the return of Pakistan seam bowler Mohammad Abbas for the upcoming 2022 County Championship.

Abbas, who played for Hampshire in the 2021 season, returns to the Ageas Bowl following a season where he picked up a total of 41 wickets. His 41 wickets included three five-wicket hauls and an incredible 6-11 against Middlesex, which included a hat-trick.

In Abbas, Hampshire have signed a top-class bowler who at one time was rated as the third-best test bowler in the world. Abbas made his international debut for Pakistan back in 2017 against the West Indies. Since his debut, Abbas has taken 90 wickets in the 25 test matches that he has played, he averages 23 for his test career.

Abbas has taken four test five-wicket hauls, and against England, in 2018, he took 10 wickets across England’s two innings.

Providing an exception to the modern-day rule of fast bowling, Abbas isn’t blessed with express pace, but he is one of the most skillful bowlers around. He can keep an exceptionally tight line and length and can bowl it repeatedly. He is a bowler that thrives in English conditions and he can shape the ball both ways.

His signing makes Hampshire one of the teams to beat in this year’s County Championship and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Abbas leading the way as one of this season’s premier bowlers.

Abbas returns as Hampshire’s second overseas player following the signing of the South African seamer of Kyle Abbot.
