NFL Draft Profile S Kyle Hamilton

Draft Profile S Kyle Hamilton

Safety is not a highly valued position in the NFL. The difference between the 11th best safety in the league and the 50th best safety in the league is often a matter of scheme/fit, and talent level differences are often marginal. Yet there are few safetys that are in the top five range that are difference makers and game wreckers. Insert Notre Dame draft prospect S Kyle Hamilton.

Pros:
At 6’4 220 pounds, Hamilton looks almost more like a 3-4 outside rushing linebacker. Well, probably because he can do that but also defend the pass and is a firm run game tackler. His elite arm length (33″) helps him ball hawk as a pass defender and is a leverage tool in the run game. He also has a rare level of football IQ that he can elevate those around him by playing from the back.

Cons:
He did have an injury that made him miss the last third of the college season, he can be over-aggressive at times.

Overview:
Extremely high floor, and his ceiling is potentially defensive MVP level. Some mock drafts have him as high as #2, which is unheard of for a safety.

Caleb Tallman is a massive sports fan that is always in the know with the NFL, NBA and MLB. Having grown up playing all three, the transition to writing about them was seamless.
