Top 5 NFL Draft Class: Detroit Lions

Top 5 NFL Draft: Lions

The Detroit Lions had many needs coming into the NFL draft and are probably still at least one more year away from potentially being playoff competitive. Aidan Hutchinson was a no-brainer starting their draft with the hometown player and number one ranked player in the draft. Their trade-up to get Alabama WR Jameson Williams was a great move.

Williams is probably the most talented WR in the draft but is coming off a knee injury. It is almost perfect for the Lions, though, if Williams is not back until mid-season. The Lions are still another year away, so if they lose a bunch of games before getting Williams back, it is not a big deal, especially if he is the best WR in this class.

The Lions then used the rest of the draft to pick high-quality players. By drafting linebacker and D-line depth and drafting a starting-caliber safety, the Lion’s defense was significantly improved. Now, if the Lions can let that defense grow this year but still get a high draft pick to a get a quarterback, this time next year, we could be talking about a playoff contender.

Caleb Tallman is a massive sports fan that is always in the know with the NFL, NBA and MLB. Having grown up playing all three, the transition to writing about them was seamless.
