The Philadelphia Phillies scored a fantastic score of four runs in the second innings but were unable to win Sunday’s match at the Dodger Stadium. The opposing Los Angeles Dodgers almost lost the game but retaliated in the ninth and last innings.
The Phillies started the game strongly by scoring four runs in a single inning. That was, however, the only time they were able to score in the game as they scored none afterward. The team also garnered two outs with nobody on base.
They managed to lead by one point, but the Dodgers passed them at the last minute and ended the game as the victors, winning the game 5-4. The Phillies are now at 17-18 in the National League East.
“It’s just frustrating altogether,” said pitcher Corey Knebel, who failed at stopping Dodgers’ batter Cody Bellinger from scoring the last two runs with a double.
“It would be nice to have a sweep against these guys. It’s tough to do in this place. Coming into Dodger Stadium, winning three out of four is still good. But I would have loved to have that sweep.”
The Dodgers spread out its scores through several innings. They were able to score one each in the third, fourth, and eighth innings. They ended the game by scoring the last two runs in the last innings. The team finished with five runs as the game concluded.
The Phillies are set to play the San Diego Padres today, Tuesday, May 17, at 6:45 PM ET. The Padres, who are currently second in NL West with 22-13, will play the Phillies in a three-game series.
The Padres are currently not at their best. Mike Clevinger has only played in two games in 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, which cost him all of last season. Blake Snell had a lackluster performance last season. He is respected to make his season debut in today’s match.
“I never really wanted to pitch as bad as that,” Snell said. “I mean, I love pitching. I was healthy, and all was good. I did everything in the offseason. I showed up, and I’m ready.”
San Diego captain Fernando Tatis Jr. is also unable to help the team today as well as the next games until mid-June due to a wrist fracture. The team is currently led by Manny Machado, who has hit .359, 8 doubles, 7 homers, 6 steals, and a 1.029 OPS.
The Phillies will meet the Dodgers again this Friday, May 20, at 7:05 PM ET in a three-game series. The Dodgers’ Walker Buehler is less likely to pitch against the Phillies with his disappointing performance in Sunday’s match. Clayton Kershaw might also miss the game as he was put on the injured list last Friday.
The Dodgers’ closest match is against the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
