Mercedes warned of threat posed by Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel (credit: Mark Thompson/Getty Images) Mercedes have been warned to be wary of the threat posed by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel this season. Mercedes’ pair of reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have again dominated the first half of the 2015 campaign with five and three race wins respectively. But four-time world champion Vettel has remained in contention and followed up his win in Malaysia earlier in the season with a second victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix last Sunday. Vettel’s win was more significant because the Silver Arrows endured a frustrating race as Hamilton and Rosberg came home sixth and eighth respectively. It leaves the German driver 42 points off current leading driver Hamilton, with 225 points still up for grabs in the remaining nine races of the campaign. And former Formula One world champion Mikka Hakkinen, who won two world titles in 1998 and 1999 with McLaren, feels Vettel is now very much in contention to win the drivers’ championship. “Vettel is a danger, because the season is only half way, and there are still a large number of points at stake,” Häkkinen wrote in his blog forHermes. “Vettel is driving extremely well. His performances are top notch.”
