Atlas Have One Hand on Liga MX Clausura Trophy After 2-0 First Leg Win Over Pachuca

Atlas’ hopes of becoming just the third double champion in Mexican football history looks to be on course after they took a 2-0 lead in the first leg of the Liga MX Clausura final against Pachuca.

The hosts were the narrow favourites to prevail at Estadio Jalisco, and their nerves were settled when they took the lead after 26 minutes. Luis Reyes and José Abella exchanged passes before the latter crossed for the former to head home the opener.

Pachuca were very much in the zone throughout the first half, and Kevin Álvarez will no doubt be ruing a couple of missed chances for Los Tuzos.

The second half took on a similar pattern, with Pachuca fighting hard for an equaliser, but as they took more risks space opened up in their half of the pitch – Julián Quiñones taking full advantage for Los Rojinegros in injury time with a classy counter-attacking goal.

So, Pachuca have it all to do when they host Sunday’s second leg.
