Atlético Morelia Gain Advantage in Liga de Expansión MX Final

Atlético Morelia Hold 1-0 Lead After Expansión Final First Leg

The battle to be crowned Campeón de Campeones winner in Liga de Expansión is still wide open following the first leg.

Atlético Morelia, the Clausura champions, are the favorites to get their hands on the trophy, following a 1-0 win in the first leg at Atlante’s Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes home.

A closely-fought first half concluded with the game’s major flashpoint – Atlante’s Ramiro Costa sent off in the 39th minute after collecting a second yellow card.

Consequently, Los Canarios had the better of things in the second period, and it was no surprise when they took the lead through Jesús Ramirez.

A feisty ending to the game – six yellow cards were shown from the 80th minute onwards, and eleven in total – brought no further goals, meaning that Atlético will defend their one-goal advantage when the two teams reconvene for the second leg on Sunday.
