Liverpool emerges as Nunez front runners

According to several reports in the UK, Liverpool have emerged as the clear front runners in the race to capture the signature of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Portuguese club Benfica.

At just 22, Nunez has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in all of Europe and he looks set to play a leading part in Uruguay’s upcoming World Cup campaign.

However, any deal for Nunez won’t come cheap.

According to the reports Benfica are holding out for a bid of at least €100 million. Even with Liverpool being one of the biggest clubs in the world, meeting that price would smash the Red’s transfer record.

Liverpool are in need of attacking reinforcements. It looks increasingly likely that Sadio Mane will be leaving this summer and Mohammed Salah is about to enter the final year of his contract.

With question marks over both of Liverpool’s star forwards, the signing of Nunez would go a long way in ensuring that Liverpool continues to have one of the best-attacking lineups in world football not just now, but also in the future.
