Mauricio Pochettino to leave PSG

As has been reported over the last few weeks, Mauricio Pochettino’s time at PSG has finally come to an end with the Argentine leaving after 18 months in charge.

Pochettino’s time at the helm of one of Europe’s most volatile clubs has been mixed. Unable to claw back Lille in his first six months in charge, PSG put the record straight with a comfortable league success this season. Pochettino also guided PSG to the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions.

However, it was Pochettino’s failures in Europe which have ultimately cost him his job. The PSG board craves European silverware and with a squad that can boast the talents of Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mpabbe a last-sixteen exit to Real Madrid was considered unacceptable.

Pochettino’s removal from his post could be a blessing in disguise for the Argentine. It has long been rumored that he has been unhappy in Paris and at one stage was close to returning to Tottenham.

For now, it looks like Pochettino will take a break but it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone to see him back in employment quickly.
