Monagas earn hard fought victory against Universidad Central

The ‘Guerreros de Guarapiche’ had to work hard to get the three points against Universidad Central and maintain their position as league leaders.

Monagas had a difficult match against Universidad Central, but Jhonny Ferreira’s team managed to prevail with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Aquiles Ocanto in the 63rd minute. Although Universidad Central are placed in the leagues bottom two, they proved to be a tough opponent for Monagas with an intention of moving away from the relegation zone.

Monagas knew the importance of the win having seen their closest pursuers at the start of the weekend both drop points. Deportivo La Guaira had an entertaining 3-3 draw against Aragua, while Deportivo Táchira lost 2-0 in their visit to Caracas.

The other team that joined the fight for the title is Metropolitanos, which in its visit to Zamora obtained three fundamental points that moved them into second position, three points behind Monagas.
