Pachuca beat Monterrey 3-0 to guarantee Clausura top spot

After winning 3-0 against Monterrey, Pachuca guaranteed first place in the Clausura league phase with one round of games remaining. They are six points ahead of Tigres meaning they can not be overtaken.

Guillermo Almada’s team have been playing one of their best seasons in recent years and it is all the more impressive given their disappointing performance in the Apertura league phase.

Monterrey are looking to gain enough points to finish in the top four with Pachuca and earn direct qualification to the playoffs.

The match began with Pachuca taking the lead in the 17th minute thanks to the goal scored by Luis Chávez.

In the second half the superiority of the home team became more evident and Roberto de la Rosa scored his team’s second on 71 minutes. Four minutes later, Chávez scored his second goal to seal the 3-0 victory

It was not all good news for the leaders, as they saw their top scorer, Argentinian striker Nicolás Ibañez, replaced due to injury, however the severity is not yet known.
