Tacuary prevent Cerro Porteño from taking league lead

Tacuary 2-0 Cerro Porteño

Second placed Cerro Porteño suffered a 2-0 defeat at Tacuary which prevented them from moving into first place in División Profesional de la Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol.

League strugglers Tacuary put in a dominant display which belied their current league position

After an impressive 4-0 win against league leaders Libertad in their last match, coach Francisco Arce admitted that it had been one of the best games in his career. After losing against Tacuary, he confessed that his team were inferior and that they did not deserve to win.

Tacuary took the lead with a header from Hugo Valdez in the 32nd minute after a corner-kick from the player of the match, Elvio Vera. Although Cerro tried to find the equaliser, Tacuary found the spaces to counter attack and in the 54th minute Vera converted to make it 2-0.

After seeing Libertad draw with Resistencia, Cerro Porteño missed out on the chance to go clear at the top.
