Players' strike forces suspension of week 12

Games in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol were postponed this week after a player’s protest.

Following failed negotiations between the Panamanian Soccer Players Association and the league’s teams, the players held a protest and refused to play the games in week 12.

The former football player and president of the Association of Football Player of Panama (AFUTPA) expressed in a press conference that there was no intention of the Club Owners to reach an agreement. For several weeks, players who play in the Panamanian league have been demanding contractual improvements and social security as workers’ basic right.

Solis told the media: “After several hours of negotiation and trying, unfortunately the other party does not give us the guarantees we have requested”.

That is why the 12th match was suspended by the players strike as they await a positive answer to their demands. The directors voted to resume negotiations, and to try to bring an end to the protests and try to continue with the League as soon as possible.
