Saprissa upset the odds to beat league leaders L.D. Alajuelense

Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 L.D. Alajuelense

L.D. Alajualense suffered a surprise defeat 2-0 against rivals Deportivo Saprissa in the Costa Rican National Derby. Despite the defeat, L.D.A. remain four points clear at the top of the table.

Coming into the match, table topping L.D.A. were the favourites and had won five games in a row. Saprissa, meanwhile, had suffered four consecutive defeats and had slipped down the league. This meant that their qualification to the final phase of the league was in danger.

Jeaustin Campos’ team made an impressive start and quickly took the lead thanks to an acrobatic bicycle kick from Aubrey David in the 21st minute. The second goal was scored by Andy Reyes in the 40th minute with a right-footed shot that was deflected in off a defender.

L.D.A. were unable to make any comeback and suffered their fifth defeat of the season. They remain top on 32 points ahead of Cartaginés.
