Southampton FC rule out transfer deadline day sales

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman insists none of his players will be leaving St Mary’s before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening.

The Saints boss however remains, hopeful, that he can bring in a new central defender before business is completed.

Speaking after his side beat Norwich 3-0 on Sunday; Koeman said man of the match Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama would not be leaving the south coast.

Mane has reportedly attracted interest from some top clubs, including Manchester United, while Wanyama has hinted he would like to move on.

Koeman left the former Celtic midfielder out of his squad for the Canaries clash, insisting he was not in the right frame of mind to play.

“They will stay in Southampton, I’m 100-per-cent sure about that,” said the Dutchman.

“The same answer for Victor as for Sadio, we don’t sell that kind of player because they are key players for the team and they have to respect the contract. That’s most important.

“If they are like before, it is no problem, but they have to show the commitment that Sadio is showing, and that leaves Victor to do (the same).”

Koeman also admits he is desperate to bring in a centre back before the transfer deadline.

“We already mentioned two weeks ago we need a centre back. And we are working hard to bring in a new player in that position,” he added.

“We have two days more, and we have to do it.”
