Sporting San Jose Keep Costa Rica Primera División Play-Off Hopes Alive with Zeledon Victory

Sporting San Jose Move Within a Point of Primera División Play-Offs

A vital win over Zeledon on Thursday kept Sporting San Jose’s hopes of qualifying for the Clausura play-offs in Costa Rica alive.

Roger Rojas was the hero, notching the only goal of the game in a frantic opening ten minutes. His side dominated the first period, firing in seven shots on the hosts’ goal, but they were unable to extend their advantage.

Zeledon made two changes at the break, bringing on Lucas Gomez and Joshua Navarro, and they began to look more dangerous as San Jose took their foot off the gas.

But while they dominated possession in the second half, Zeledon could not find a way past the resolute defending of the visitors, and so San Jose were left to celebrate what could be a decisive victory.

Incredibly, it was their first win in eight games and marked their first Clausura goal in more than 270 minutes of action, but it keeps them just one point behind San Carlos in fourth position.
